Fears / Phobias

Fears

Fear is an unpleasant feeling that we get when confronted with genuine danger - it is our ‘fight or flight’ instinct, which makes us prepare to either run away from that danger, or stick around and fight it out.

Phobias

A phobia is something we develop ourselves, i.e. it is not something we are born with. It is an irrational fear which has somehow been associated - to an object, or situation, which for most people causes little or no real danger.

The tendency is to avoid the stimulus or stimuli which trigger the feelings of fear and often the person identified as having a phobia will experience intense feelings of anxiety and will often report feeling as though they feel they have no control over the situation.

Phobias are often the product of things which happen in our childhood. Think about a child walking down a street in New York. The buildings look so overwhelming and huge to this tiny individual. The same can happen with situations or objects. The child may experience a feeling of fear, for whatever reason, and the child quickly associates fear with a particular situation or object. It is common then for children to develop an ability to repress the feeling of terror from the situation or object which instigated it. The mind likes association and repression is not usually the way to deal with things so the mind can then attach the fear to some object or situation, even arbitrarily, and when the person comes into contact with that situation or object they feel the fear and may not understand why. As the subconscious mind learns this behaviour it often gets worse. Hypnosis can help to find the initial sensitizing event and subsequent events, change the cognitive and the behaviour patterns quickly and easily thus removing the phobia.

Fear Of Flying

The fear of flying is common. Sometimes the stimuli which trigger the fear are obvious and sometimes they are not easily identified. One may be concerned about the lack of space in the aircraft - a feeling of being closed in - or the fear of someone else having control.

It may be a fear of turbulence or the height the planes reach while flying … It may even be a fear of terrorism. You may not even be able to pinpoint exactly what it is that instills the fear of flying.

As a result of these concerns one may experience any or all of the following
Shallow breathing
Tightness in chest
Dry mouth
Sweating
Dizziness
Inability to think clearly

Fear of flying can be overcome using analytical and suggestion therapy with as few as 4 sessions. If you would like to overcome your fear of flying and learn the tools to feel calm and relaxed while traveling the world … or even a little of it! …

Fear of Wasps

Does the thought of attending a bar-b-q in the basking sunshine fill you with dread because the fear of wasps overshadows it? When you were younger you could well have associated wasps with a negative emotion. Like all fears it is the mind’s way of protecting you.

After all if you avoid all situations where wasps ‘might’ be present the likelihood of getting stung or feeling that panic is going to be much less. Sometimes the mind becomes overprotective and this is when fear gets out of hand.

Hypnosis can help you to break the negative associations /links and create more positive new ones so that you can get your feeling of freedom back. If you want to eliminate an irrational fear of wasps as few as 4 sessions can eliminate the fear and show you how to create healthy, informed associations about wasps.
